Dance Community’s Moves Supported by Provincial Government
Newfoundland and Labrador’s dance community will see a variety of activities and events during 2011-12 as a result of a $10,000 grant provided to DanceNL, the province’s sectoral dance association. The funding is through the Provincial Government’s Cultural Economic Development Program.
“DanceNL continues to promote, preserve, and support the art of dance in Newfoundland and Labrador,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “The Provincial Government is committed to the continued support of our cultural industries, such as dance, which assist professional artists with the creation and promotion of their work.”
Funding is being used to support International Dance Day, workshops, strategic planning, and the annual general meeting. For more information about DanceNL visit www.dancenl.ca/.
“DanceNL is thrilled to be so strongly supported by the Provincial Government,” said Dr. Kristin Harris-Walsh, President of DanceNL. “As a young, sectoral association, funding at the provincial level is critical to enable us to grow as an association and provide important programming for our members. The dance community throughout the province will benefit from this support, and we are looking forward to representing the dance community of Newfoundland and Labrador this coming year.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $2.9 million through its Cultural Economic Development Program to support arts, cultural, and heritage initiatives throughout the province. Projects are selected based on the strength of the business plan, vision, and potential development within the sector.
