Recreational Infrastructure Funding Benefits Town of St. Vincent’s-St. Stephen’s-Peter’s River
The Town of St. Vincent’s-St. Stephen’s-Peter’s River has received $15,000 through the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grant Program to assist with the development of a boardwalk.
“This investment is being used to help with the purchase and installation of materials to construct a boardwalk adjacent to Holyrood Pond,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “We are pleased to assist in this community project as it provides residents with a great opportunity to participate in healthy and fun outdoor activities.”
The Town of St. Vincent’s-St. Stephen’s-Peter’s River is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.
“This boardwalk will be an excellent asset to the town,” said the Honourable Felix Collins, Minister of Justice and MHA for Placentia - St. Mary’s. “It will allow both residents and tourists with the opportunity to exercise in the beautiful surroundings of Holyrood Pond and St. Vincent’s beach.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
