Port Albert Recreation Committee Granted
$15,000 to Improve Community Centre
The Port Albert Recreation Committee has received $15,000 through the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program to help with costs associated with repair and upgrades to the local community recreation centre.
“This funding will be used to assist with building a wheelchair accessible deck to the community recreation centre as well as making other necessary repairs to the facility,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Centres such as these are an important part of the physical, recreational, and social activities within a community.”
The Port Albert Recreation Commission is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.
“I am very pleased to see this investment in the recreational program of Port Albert,” said Wade Verge, MHA for Lewisporte. “The funds allocated will allow this volunteer committee to proceed with identified improvements to their building.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
