Beyond The Overpass Theatre Company Benefits from Cultural Investment

Beyond The Overpass Theatre Company, based in Gander, has received $35,000 in operational support through the Provincial Government’s Cultural Economic Development Program.

“This investment will be used to offset costs associated with the production of the 2011 Summer Theatre Festival,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Beyond The Overpass Theatre Company continues to develop a new generation of theatre practitioners and patrons through their theatre festival and new theatrical and touring productions, as well as by working with various educational institutions.”

The Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs and MHA for Gander, welcomed the investment.

“Supporting the arts sector is one of the priorities of the Provincial Government,” said Minister O’Brien. “Programs such as the Cultural Economic Development Program enable groups like Beyond The Overpass to provide artists in rural Newfoundland and Labrador with a place to express themselves through their theatrical productions.”

Steven Perry, General Manager with Beyond The Overpass Theatre Company, said Provincial Government support is a vital element in the development of artistic expression in Newfoundland and Labrador.

“Providing professional artists with the opportunity to practice their craft and showcase their skills is extremely important to the continued advancement of theatre in rural Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Mr. Perry. “The economic and social benefits generated by the festival are incredibly important to our town, region, and province. The contribution made by the Provincial Government through Cultural Economic Development Program is vital to the work we do and provides a clear indication that government understands the value associated with supporting arts and artists in Newfoundland and Labrador.”
