T.A. Soper Memorial Stadium in Buchans to Receive Upgrades
The Town of Buchans has received $14,600 through the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program to assist with the installation of new doors and framing for the entrance at the T.A. Soper Memorial Stadium.
“The town will use this investment to assist with labour costs and the purchase of construction materials,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “We are pleased to support this community project as it will make the facility safer and more enjoyable for those that avail of the programs and community events offered.”
The Town of Buchans is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.
“The T.A. Soper Memorial Stadium has always been a focus of activity and community spirit,” said the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development and MHA for Grand Falls-Windsor - Buchans. “This funding will ensure residents of Buchans can continue to maintain this vital recreational facility.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
