Belleoram Receives $15,000 for Upgrades

The residents of Belleoram will soon see a new look for their local playground thanks in part to a $15,000 grant provided to the community through the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program.

“This funding will be used to assist with the costs associated with ground preparation work, and the purchase and installation of playground equipment,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Facilities such as these are an integral part of physical, recreational, and social activities in a community.”

The Town of Belleoram is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities, and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through the latest Capital Grant Program investments.

“I am thrilled that the young people of Belleoram are benefiting from this program by developing a new community playground,” said Tracey Perry, MHA for Fortune Bay -Cape La Hune. “This is valuable infrastructure for families and residents, providing many enjoyable hours of fun and physical activity.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
