Botwood Receives $15,000 for Recreation Infrastructure Improvements
The Town of Botwood has received $15,000 through the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program to assist with the redevelopment of the local playground.
“This funding will be used to assist in the purchase and installation of several pieces of outdoor exercise equipment, such as an elliptical trainer and an air walker,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Community-minded projects such as this are a good way to help our residents have healthier, active, and fun lifestyles.”
The Town of Botwood is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities, and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.
“Updating our recreation and sport infrastructure throughout the province plays a very important role in promoting healthy, active living among our residents,” said Clayton Forsey, MHA for Exploits. “Investments such as these will certainly help to entice people of all ages in the Botwood area to get moving and to have fun.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
