48 Half-Hours Contest to Sweep Canada

Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism is partnering with WestJet to launch one of the biggest travel contests in the province’s history. Hosted exclusively through Facebook, the 48 Half-Hours contest gives people across Canada a chance to win one of 48 round-trip flight vouchers to Newfoundland and Labrador every half-hour for a non-stop 48 half-hour (24-hour) period. The contest is a celebration of the unusual half-hour time zone in Newfoundland.

“Having our own time zone a half-hour ahead of everyone else in the country is more than a feature of the province’s geography,” said Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “It’s a compelling part of this place and it’s just one of the many differences that make Newfoundland and Labrador such a unique destination.”

The 48 Half-Hours contest begins Wednesday, June 22, at 12:00 p.m. Newfoundland Daylight Time (10:30 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time). People can enter as many times as they like until the contest closes Thursday, June 23, at 12:00 p.m. Newfoundland Daylight Time (10:30 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time). But they can only win once.

Residents of Newfoundland and Labrador can enter to win, and use the vouchers to bring people from away into the province for a visit.

“We’re hoping people will enter the 48 Half-Hours contest as many times as they can,” said Minister French. “We’re also counting on Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to be ambassadors, spreading the word online to all their friends and family.”

People can enter the 48 Half-Hours contest on June 22 by visiting Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/NewfoundlandLabradorTourism and clicking on the 48 Half-Hours contest tab to the left of the wall feed. All the official rules and regulations are there as well. People can follow the contest’s activity on the Facebook page or on Twitter twitter.com/nltweets.
