Hughes Brook Benefits from $15,000 Investment in Playground Equipment

The Town of Hughes Brook has received $15,000 in support from the Capital Grant Program to assist with the redevelopment of the community playground.

“This funding will be used to assist in the purchase of a multi-featured play structure that is wheelchair accessible,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Facilities such as these are an important part of the physical, recreational and social activities in any community, especially for the children.”

The Town of Hughes Brook is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.

“I am so pleased for the town to receive these funds that will benefit our most important resource – our young people,” said Bay of Islands MHA Terry Loder. “I congratulate the volunteers of the town for their hard work and assistance.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
