Lewin’s Cove Playground Receives $15,000
Recreational Infrastructure Boost

Lewin’s Cove Recreation is getting a $15,000 investment from the Capital Grants Program to upgrade its playground.

“This money will be used to help with the purchase of equipment and installation of chain-link fencing for the community playground,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “The Provincial Government recognizes that facilities such as these are an important component of physical, recreational and social activities in a community.”

Lewin’s Cove is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities and recreation commissions which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.

“I am delighted with our government’s continued support for recreation in this area. Today’s support for the playground in Lewin’s Cove is yet another great investment which will benefit the youth in this community,” said the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment and MHA for Grand Bank. “It is vitally important that we continue working together to provide recreation facilities within our communities that will give residents an opportunity to be physically active and enjoy healthy lifestyles. I want to thank the volunteers of Lewin’s Cove for their efforts with this project.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides a total annual investment of $1.3 million to the Capital Grant Program. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
