Port Anson Receives $15,000 in Recreational Infrastructure Funding
The Port Anson Recreation Committee has received $15,000 through the Provincial Government’s 2011 Capital Grant Program to assist with the construction of a multi-purpose recreational court.
“This funding will help offset the cost of a recreational court that will be used throughout the year for such sports as hockey, skating, skateboarding, basketball, and volleyball,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “The facility will cater to residents of all ages who will benefit greatly from a healthier, active lifestyle.”
The Port Anson Recreation Committee is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities and recreation commissions which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.
“Having this facility in our backyard will allow easy access to a variety of activities year-round for residents,” said Grand Falls-Windsor-Green Bay South MHA Ray Hunter. “This investment will assist with facilitating opportunities for healthier, more active lifestyles for individuals of all ages in the community.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides a total annual investment of $1.3 million to the Capital Grant Program. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
