Conception Bay South Named Top Five Finalist for Kraft Hockeyville 2011

It’s official – the Town of Conception Bay South (CBS) has been named one of the top five communities for Kraft Hockeyville 2011. The announcement was made this past weekend, during Saturday night’s (March 19) CBC Hockey Night in Canada broadcast.

“Congratulations to the Town of Conception Bay South for making the top five,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “The efforts of the organizing committee and residents have been incredible. Once again, I encourage all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, here and abroad, to show their continued support of CBS and vote in this final round to crown the town Kraft Hockeyville 2011.”

The winning community will receive the coveted title of Kraft Hockeyville 2011 and be awarded $100,000 to be used for upgrading the local arena, along with an opportunity to host a National Hockey League (NHL) pre-season game and a CBC Hockey Night in Canada broadcast.

“The co-operation of the public to date has been fantastic,” said Woodrow French, Mayor of Conception Bay South. “The support from the community including family, friends and businesses, has gotten us to the next level. I encourage all residents to give the town the extra push to have Conception Bay South named Kraft Hockeyville 2011.”

The Kraft Hockeyville 2011 winner will be revealed on April 2, at the end of CBC Hockey Night in Canada, which will include coverage from Conception Bay South and the other four finalist communities – Mackenzie, BC; Wolfe Island, ON; Saint Raymond, QC and Bentley, AB.

Kraft Hockeyville 2011 is sponsored by Kraft Canada, together with the CBC, the NHL and the NHL Players’ Association.
