Conception Bay South Makes it to the Top 10 for Kraft Hockeyville

The Town of Conception Bay South (CBS) has been selected as one of the top 10 communities in the country in the running for the coveted title of Kraft Hockeyville 2011.

The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today encouraged all residents to increase the community’s chances to win this competition by voting online.

“For the fourth consecutive year, a community from Newfoundland and Labrador is competing to win this spirited, community-driven event,” said Minister French. “To have the opportunity to host an NHL pre-season game is a dream of every hockey community with a stadium. Such an event would generate tremendous anticipation and excitement in CBS and the surrounding area.”

People can vote as often as they wish to help make Conception Bay South a top five finalist in the Kraft Hockeyville 2011 competition. There are two ways to vote: visit www.krafthockeyville.ca opens in new window or call the toll free number at 1-866-533-8066. Voting ends March 13, 2011 at 11:59:59 p.m. ET.

“I am proud of the residents of CBS for their support to move the town to the next level of Kraft Hockeyville 2011,” said Woodrow French, Mayor of Conception Bay South. “Working together, we can achieve our goal – we will be crowned Hockeyville 2011.”

The winning community will have a National Hockey League (NHL) pre-season game hosted in the community arena, a CBC Hockey Night in Canada broadcast from the community, and $100,000 to be used for upgrading their home arena, which in Conception Bay South, is the Robert French Memorial Stadium.

Kraft Hockeyville 2011 is sponsored by Kraft Canada, together with the CBC, the NHL and the NHL Players’ Association.
