And a Silver Medal Makes Three!

Team Newfoundland and Labrador has once again increased their medal count at the 2011 Canada Winter Games. Today, target shooter Emma MeulenKamp won a silver medal in the individual air pistol competition.

“A podium finish at this level of competition is quite an accomplishment for an athlete who has been competing in this sport for just over a year,” said the Honorable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “I congratulate Emma not only for a great medal performance but for doing so at her first Canada Games appearance.”

In 2009, Ms. MeulenKamp was named both junior and ladies Provincial Pistol Champion. This past year she won a gold medal in the women’s junior division at the North Atlantic Airgun Challenge held in Nova Scotia.

Earlier this week teammates Ben Taylor and Jason Harnum won a bronze medal in the team air rifle competition. Mr. Taylor later won another bronze metal in the individual air rifle event.

Team Newfoundland and Labrador is made up of a contingent of more than 200 athletes, volunteer coaches, managers and mission staff, which includes 15 individual teams, participating in 13 sports.

The 2011 Canada Winter Games are being held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, February 11-27. For the latest information, updates and results for Team Newfoundland and Labrador during the 2011 Canada Winter Games, visit: www.teamnl.ca/
