Bronze Medal Win for Team Newfoundland and Labrador

Target Shooters Ben Taylor and Jason Harnum today won a bronze medal in the team air rifle competition at the 2011 Canada Winter Games – the first medal win for Team Newfoundland and Labrador.

“I’d like to extend my congratulations to Ben and Jason,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Their hard work and dedication has paved the way to the Canada Games podium. I have no doubt their achievement will be an inspiration to fellow teammates.”

Ben Taylor, a native of St. John’s, has been shooting for 10 years and competing for three. He was named provincial champion and three-time junior champion at the 2010 Provincial Air Rifle Championships.

Jason Harnum, a native of Paradise, has been shooting with the provincial target shooting team for three years. This past year, he placed first at the Canada Games Test Match, the Sea Cadet Nationals and the Sharpshooter Canadian Airgun Grand Prix.

Team Newfoundland and Labrador (Team NL) is made up of a contingent of more than 200 athletes, volunteer coaches, managers and mission staff. During the games, Team NL is represented by 15 teams, participating in 13 sports.
