Bell Island Playground and Recreation Area Upgraded
Bell Island is getting some new playground and fitness equipment thanks in part to a $15,000 grant provided through the Provincial Government’s 2010 Capital Grant Program.
“This funding will be used to assist with the construction of a new playground and recreation area,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “The project has been a real community effort, and will provide residents and visitors with increased opportunities to take part in physical activities in a safe and inviting environment.”
The Town of Wabana is among more than 40 municipalities, recreation commissions and community-based organizations which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.
“This new facility will serve as a cornerstone for both young and older residents to become more physically and socially active,” said Conception Bay East – Bell Island MHA David Brazil. “I sincerely commend and congratulate all the individuals and community organizations involved in bringing this particular project to fruition.”

Since the introduction of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million in new funding has been committed for recreation and sport infrastructure and programming.
