Company Engaged in 911/E-911 Feasibility Study

The Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services, today announced that POMAX Consulting Incorporated has been retained to carry out a feasibility study of expanded 911/E-911 services in Newfoundland and Labrador.

“The Provincial Government remains committed to exploring the options for expanded 911 and E-911 services in the province,” said Minister O’Brien. “POMAX Consulting has considerable expertise in telephone systems, data communication, geographical information systems, and other noted complex subjects associated with expanding access.”

The consulting firm has commenced work and is expected to engage with key stakeholders, emergency responders and other relevant experts throughout the course of the study. A final report will be submitted to the Provincial Government by the end of March 2012.

“I recognize expanding 911 services and introducing E-911 service may sound simple, but this is a process that requires the appropriate attention of knowledgeable individuals who have specialization in public safety consulting,” noted Minister O’Brien. “Our government is keenly aware of the challenges experienced in other jurisdictions as well as the numerous complexities involved in such a project. I am eager to review the POMAX report, so we will all better appreciate what steps are required to move forward.”

POMAX Consulting has been operating and incorporated in Canada and the United States since 1996. The company has extensive experience and technical skill in emergency response systems, effective operational models, organization, governance, and cost impact for projects throughout North America.
