Funding for Municipal Infrastructure Projects Announced
Approximately $1.5 million from the 2011 Municipal Capital Works program has been allocated for communities in the Harbour Main and Port de Grave areas to support municipal infrastructure projects.
“The projects to be undertaken will greatly enhance the municipal infrastructure in these communities,” said the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “Through a collaborative approach with our municipalities we are continuing our efforts to improve municipal services throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.”
The Town of Holyrood will replace a sewer lift station, upgrade water and sewer services and pave Kennedy’s Lane, and extend water and sewer for Ridge Road. Cupids will receive funding to upgrade the Burnt Head Loop retaining structure and Brigus will also begin water main improvements. Upper Island Cove will use the funding for the replacement of the water booster station.
“These projects for the historic towns of our area are certainly welcomed and will provide great benefits,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works and MHA for Harbour Main. “With a strong emphasis on water and wastewater projects we are improving our neighborhoods and demonstrating our continued commitment to the longevity of our communities.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador included $140.8 million for new and ongoing municipal infrastructure projects. When combined with federal cost-shared programs and municipal contributions, the total investment this year is expected to be approximately $219 million.
