Avalon Peninsula and Northeast Coast Communities Receive Over $230,000
in Firefighting Equipment Funding

Firefighting equipment valued at more than $230,000 will benefit a number of communities throughout the Avalon Peninsula and northeast coast, as the Provincial Government’s focus on firefighting safety continues.

“Municipal fire departments throughout Newfoundland and Labrador provide phenomenal service to the people and businesses in their communities,” said the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services. “We are pleased to provide close to $200,000 to help communities purchase over $230,000 in essential firefighting equipment. Our government is committed to assisting our towns, communities, and regions to provide the best level of fire protection available.”

Funding is provided through the Provincial Firefighting Equipment Financial Assistance Program administered by Fire and Emergency Services – Newfoundland and Labrador (FES-NL). Fire departments successful in receiving funding have applied for the program with the support of their municipal council and have committed to cover their portion of the equipment through the previously established cost share ratios.
