Communities in the Terra Nova Area Receive Infrastructure Support
Through the 2011 Municipal Capital Works program, communities in the Terra Nova area will receive approximately $2.3 million in funding to undertake municipal infrastructure projects.
“The Terra Nova area is recognized for its natural beauty and as an important tourist location,” said the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “While the road improvements we are supporting will certainly benefit visitors to the area, the most lasting impacts of all these projects will be upon area residents.”
Through the 2011 Municipal Capital Works program, the Town of Gambo will receive funding for the construction of a new municipal complex which will replace the current fire hall and town offices. Bunyan’s Cove will undertake water service improvements and Glovertown will conduct a water treatment study. Glovertown and Hare Bay will also upgrade a number of local roads.
“These are welcomed infrastructure projects which will greatly improve services within our communities,” said Sandy Collins, MHA for Terra Nova. “Support to construct a new municipal complex in Gambo is welcomed news for residents and town officials as well as the volunteer firefighters. The inclusion of important water service projects is also great news for area residents, along with the many road upgrades which will occur.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador included $140.8 million for new and ongoing municipal infrastructure projects. When combined with federal cost-shared programs and municipal contributions, the total investment this year is expected to be approximately $219 million.
