Communities in Trinity - Bay de Verde to Benefit from Municipal Capital Works Funding

Communities in Trinity - Bay de Verde will receive over $1.7 million for municipal infrastructure projects through the 2011 Municipal Capital Works program.

“These communities along Conception Bay and Trinity Bay will benefit greatly from our investment,” said the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “The projects funded will improve water services to many communities, along with improving roads and other municipal infrastructure.”

Salmon Cove will receive funding to extend water service to residents currently not receiving service from the town. Both Heart’s Content and Heart’s Delight-Islington will receive support to replace sewage lift stations, while New Perlican will upgrade and pave Harbour Road. Whiteway will receive funding to complete a water and sewer project and Old Perlican will receive funding to conduct work on the damaged seawall.

“The inclusion of substantial water service projects, along with road and other important infrastructure work, is a great benefit to residents of the area,” said the Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services and MHA for Trinity - Bay de Verde. “All of these projects will have a major impact in our communities and enhance the infrastructure for both residents and visitors to our historic communities for many years to come.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador included $140.8 million for new and ongoing municipal infrastructure projects. When combined with federal cost-shared programs and municipal contributions, the total investment this year is expected to be approximately $219 million.
