Communities in Bellevue Area to Receive Capital Works Funding

Four communities in the Bellevue area will receive approximately $1.5 million through the Provincial Government’s 2011 Municipal Capital Works program. This funding will be used for water and sewer projects as well as road improvements.

“This significant investment will enhance municipal infrastructure in Norman’s Cove-Long Cove and Sunnyside to the benefit of area residents,” said the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “Today’s funding will allow for substantial water and sewer projects, including a study of the area’s water supply infrastructure, as well as important road improvements.”

This investment will see work continue on the Main Road West water and sewer project in Norman’s Cove-Long Cove to replace the existing water line. In Sunnyside, the second phase of a water and sewer project for the community will be funded and once completed, will bring water and sewer services to all residents. An evaluation of the water supply infrastructure in Chance Cove and improvements to Wareham’s Avenue in Arnold’s Cove will also occur.

“I am pleased to see the continued commitment of the Provincial Government to support municipal infrastructure projects in the Bellevue area,” said Calvin Peach, MHA for Bellevue. “These water and sewer projects will make a significant difference to these communities and I know residents will be thrilled to see their completion. I also look forward to the improvements to Wareham’s Avenue in Arnold’s Cove and the study of Chance Cove’s water supply infrastructure.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador included $140.8 million for new and ongoing municipal infrastructure projects. When combined with federal cost-shared programs and municipal contributions, the total investment this year is expected to be approximately $219 million.
