Partnership Brings New Fire Truck to Carmanville
Representatives of the Provincial Government and the Town of Carmanville came together Saturday morning to mark the arrival of a new firefighting vehicle. The Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services, was joined by the Honourable Harry Harding, Minister of Government Services and MHA for Bonavista North, Mayor Sam Windsor and members of both the municipal council and volunteer fire department.
“We were pleased to join with the town of Carmanville to provide this new pumper truck, which is a great source of pride for the community,” said Minister O’Brien. “Saturday’s event marked a realization of a commitment the Provincial Government made to this community last year, while also providing an opportunity to celebrate a successful partnership between our department and the Town of Camanville.”
Through this partnership, the Provincial Government and the Town of Carmanville cost-shared the purchase through the 90/10 ratio established through the Municipal Capital Works program. The new pumper truck, valued at approximately $220,000, is a two-door pumper with a 300 horsepower diesel engine. The vehicle contains a class A foam system and an 830 gallon water tank.
“Firefighters give tirelessly of their time to ensure our residents are safe and protected,” said Minister Harding. “This new pumper truck will assist the volunteer firefighters in Carmanville not only in their service to residents, but also for essential training in a variety of areas important to emergency responders.”
