Job Creation Partnership Funding Announced for Bishop’s Falls

Four individuals will be hired to improve the Pat O’Reilly Memorial Stadium in Bishop’s Falls through a Job Creation Partnership project valued at $36,732. The participants will gain valuable work experience and utilize their new carpentry skills to renovate the ice surfacer room, construct a female dressing room, improve the referee room and complete other enhancements to the building.

“Not only will four individuals gain valuable work experience through this project, but residents of Bishop’s Falls and surrounding areas will benefit from the enhancements being made to the local stadium,” said the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment. “Recreational facilities bring people together and improvements such as these will strengthen the region’s identity and add to its prosperity.”

Job Creation Partnership program funding is provided through direct contributions to sponsors or through the extension of Employment Insurance benefits for project participants and may include in-kind or in-cash contributions from sponsors. Examples of potential partnership initiatives include maintenance and repairs to community infrastructure, such as town halls and churches, the beautification of public areas, and funding to support local events.

“Upgrading recreation infrastructure through the Job Creation Partnership program is a direct way of investing in the viability of communities for both citizens and visitors alike,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Through projects like this one, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is ensuring that people of all ages have a safe, pleasant environment in which to pursue social and physical activities.”

In November 2009, responsibility for Labour Market Development Agreement programs and services, including the Job Creation Partnership program, transferred from the Federal Government to the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Since that time, the Provincial Government has delivered approximately 475 projects with a total value of nearly $22 million, providing employment for over 2,250 individuals.

“This funding will add great value to the community, both in terms of employment opportunities and long-term recreational benefits,” said Clayton Forsey, MHA for Exploits. “It is great to see the Town of Bishop’s Falls, the Pat O’Reilly Memorial Stadium, and the area’s residents avail of this partnership program.”
