Job Creation Partnership Project Helps Promote Lake Melville District

The Provincial Government today highlighted the approval of a project which will help an individual gain valuable work experience, utilize new skills, and will help promote investment opportunities in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. The project is possible through an investment of $26,140 under the Job Creation Partnership program.

Through the project, a logistics coordinator will assist the Labrador North Chamber of Commerce in the coordination of the Expo Labrador Conference in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and the Northern Lights 2012 Conference in Ottawa. The participant will be responsible for event registration, logistics pertaining to events, as well as communications and public relations.

"I am pleased to see such a worthwhile project being completed through the Job Creation Partnership program,” said the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment. “In addition to this individual gaining valuable work experience, the project will have a long-term positive impact on the region by increasing promotion of local events and enhancing the capacity of the Chamber of Commerce.”

“Economic development is a vital component of strengthening Labrador and this project will directly help our communities secure their long-term viability,” said the Honourable John Hickey, Minister of Labrador Affairs and MHA for Lake Melville. “Along with encouraging important new business ventures in the area, projects such as this help ensure that all regions participate in the province’s bright future.”

In November 2009, responsibility for Labour Market Development Agreement programs and services, including the Job Creation Partnership program, transferred from the Federal Government to the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Since that time, the Provincial Government has delivered approximately 475 projects with a total value of nearly $22 million, providing employment for over 2,250 individuals.
