Career Work Centre Opened in Marystown

Today the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment, was joined by the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture and MHA for Burin - Placentia West, to announce the official opening of a new Career Work Centre (CWC) in Marystown. The new facility will serve residents on the Burin Peninsula and further extends the network of CWCs that are being established throughout the province to provide improved access to labour market services for job seekers and employers.

“One of our government’s goals is to help individuals and employers take full advantage of the many exciting new opportunities arising as a result of a rapidly changing provincial economy,” said Minister King. “One way to reach our goal is through this CWC, which offers the latest labour market information and job postings, as well as assistance and training to better understand emerging trends.”

To date, the Provincial Government has committed $4.5 million toward expanding the CWC network to 14 sites throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

“The Career Work Centre is an innovative approach that supports regional labour market development while providing direct access to labour market, career and employment services right here within the community,” added Minister Jackman. “Offices like these are having enormous impacts in many areas throughout the province, and so I am looking forward to seeing Burin Peninsula area residents benefit from the extensive employment supports that will be available through this new facility.”

Each centre is designed to meet the demands of both sides of the employment equation: employers and job seekers. The centres provide employers and community leaders with valuable statistics and timely information about employment trends, and they also provide meeting spaces where local businesses can conduct interviews for vacant positions or hold training sessions. Job seekers may use Career Work Centres to learn about employment opportunities and receive assistance to prepare for these opportunities. In addition, a telephone, fax, photocopier, and computer are available at no cost to anyone searching for employment.
