Celebrating 10 Years of Online Services

Providing key online services to the residents of Newfoundland and Labrador is an important part of how the Department of Government Services has adapted to serve the people of the province. Using technology and communications links, online access brings a suite of government services into homes and businesses across the province.

Today, 10 years after the launch of Motor Registration Division’s Vehicle Web Renewal system, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are choosing to use online services, including vehicle registration renewals, changes of address and online fines payments, more often than counter-service or mail-in methods combined. In fact, online vehicle registration renewals accounted for approximately 56 per cent of all vehicle renewals in 2010-11.

“Online transaction services have become a core part of government’s capabilities,” said the Honourable Harry Harding, Minister of Government Services. “With 10 years of success in this area, we will continue to review our services and make improvements where possible to ensure we are serving the people of the province in the most secure and efficient way possible.”

In the 10 years since the launch of this online system, the Department of Government Services has processed:

People without Internet access at home can visit a Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Community Access Program Site.
