Premier Expresses Condolences on Passing of Jack Layton
Today the Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, expressed condolences on the passing of Jack Layton, who has served as Leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada since 2003 and led his party to form the Official Opposition in the last federal election.
“I am so saddened to hear of Mr. Layton’s passing,” said Premier Dunderdale. “His commitment to Canadians, sustained even throughout his challenges with his health, was inspiring. As we mourn his loss, may we also remember all he contributed through his many years of public service. He has left an indelible mark on our country, on Canadians, and on our political landscape. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife Olivia, his children, and his loved ones. In honour of Mr. Layton, the flags at Confederation Building will fly at half-mast until sunset of the day of his funeral.”
