Senior Appointment Announced

The Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced the appointment of Paul Smith as Assistant Deputy Minister (Municipal Support and Policy) with the Department of Municipal Affairs.

“Strong leadership is vital in senior management within the provincial public service,” said Premier Dunderdale. “During his tenure with the Provincial Government, Mr. Smith has demonstrated such leadership. I congratulate him on his appointment and wish him well in his new role.”

Mr. Smith’s appointment is effective Monday, May 30. Having served most recently as Director of Government Accounting with the Office of the Comptroller General, Mr. Smith has held progressively responsible positions since starting with the Provincial Government in 1990.

Biographical Information

Paul Smith began his career with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador in 1990 as an audit technician with the Office of the Auditor General. In 1993, he moved to the Office of the Comptroller General where he has held a number of management-level positions including Director of Government Accounting since 2006. A graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland (1990), Mr. Smith holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is both a Chartered Accountant and a Certified Management Accountant.
