Celebrating Stars in the Community
Volunteers across Newfoundland and Labrador will be the focus of celebrations during National Volunteer Week, which is recognized April 10-16. The Honourable Dave Denine, Minister Responsible for the Volunteer and Non-Profit Sector, will be participating in recognition events across the province to thank volunteers for the valuable contributions they make to their communities.
This year’s theme, Volunteers… Stars in the Community, reflects the role volunteers and non-profit organizations play in communities and their ability to make a community shine and prosper. There are 197,000 volunteers provincially who contribute 35 million hours of valuable unpaid time to their communities every year. Through their hard work and dedication, volunteers and non-profit organizations make this province strong and vibrant.
“Our province has an extraordinary volunteer and non-profit sector that is making a difference to the lives of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians,” said Minister Denine. “Whether it is bringing a meal to a neighbour or volunteering in a developing country, our volunteers are having an impact. They are making the lives of people better and for that we are truly grateful. Join me in thanking all volunteers for their tremendous contributions and I encourage people to give back and get involved in their communities.”
