Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

New Harbour Park and RV Campground (Reg. 1574)
Proponent: David Anthony

The proponent proposes to construct a campground off Route 73, near New Harbour on the Avalon Peninsula. The campground will consist of 150 camping sites to accommodate recreational vehicles, serviced sites with water and electrical hookups, playground areas, a day use area, information kiosk, convenience store, comfort station (with laundry and washrooms), swimming pool and a sewage dumping station. The construction of the park is planned to begin in the spring of 2011.

The undertaking was registered on April 8, 2011; the deadline for public comments is May 17, 2011; and the minister’s decision is due by May 22, 2011.

Cabot Ready Mix Sand and Gravel Quarry #3 (Reg. 1573)
Proponent: Cabot Ready Mix Limited

The proponent intends to develop a sand and gravel quarry adjacent to existing quarries in the Incinerator Road area near Foxtrap. The site is located within the municipal boundaries of the City of St. John’s. The quarry will be 3.9 hectares in area and will be used to supply sand and aggregate material for use in the proponent’s existing ready mix batch plant. No blasting will be required, and material removed from the quarry will be crushed and washed at the existing batch plant near the Manual’s Bypass Road. The quarry is anticipated to operate for five years with a planned start date of spring 2011.

The undertaking was registered on April 7, 2011; the deadline for public comments is May 17, 2011; and the minister’s decision is due by May 22, 2011.
