Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Foxtrap Access Road Sand Quarry                                                   (Reg. 1553)
Proponent: City Sand and Gravel Ltd.

The proponent proposes to develop a sand quarry located between the Foxtrap Access Road and Middle Bight Road, in St. John’s west. The quarry area will be 1.8 hectares in size. Access to the site will be through their existing sand pit operations. Sand will be excavated and screened at the site and then trucked to their existing operations on Topsail Road in Paradise.

The undertaking was registered on January 10, 2011; the deadline for public comments is February 15, 2011; and the minister’s decision is due by February 24, 2011.

Caribou Lake Outfitter Lodge Access Road                                       (Reg. 1554)
Proponent: Caribou Pond Outfitting

The proponent proposes to construct a one kilometre access road to join existing roads to provide access to an outfitting lodge located on the eastern side of Caribou Lake, in central Newfoundland. The proposed access road to be constructed will be located to the south of Caribou Lake, approximately three kilometres from the outfitting lodge and approximately eight kilometres from the bridge on Southwest Gander River. Construction of the road is planned to commence in the spring of 2011, and will take approximately one week to complete.

The undertaking was registered on January 10, 2011; the deadline for public comments is February 15, 2011; and the minister’s decision is due by February 24, 2011.
