Minister Announces
Christmas Lights Across Canada Ceremony
The annual Christmas tree lighting at
Confederation Hill in St. Johns will take place tomorrow (Thursday,
December 2) as part of the national 2010 Christmas Lights Across Canada
event.
With the flick of a switch, approximately
60,000 festive lights will illuminate Confederation Hill and Prince
Philip Drive in St. Johns in celebration of the holiday season.
The spectacular scene of the Christmas
lights on Confederation Hill and along Prince Philip Drive is something
I believe people in the region look forward to every year, said the
Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. This
brilliant display of thousands of lights is a sure sign for many that
the holiday season is upon us and I am very excited to be hosting this
years Christmas Lights Across Canada celebration.
Christmas Lights Across Canada is an
annual event held in capital cities across the nation and is a symbolic
link between Canadas provinces and territories.
I invite members of the public, young
and old alike, to come to the event on Confederation Hill, said
Minister Hedderson. Dress warmly, bring your families and share in this
wonderful holiday tradition.
This years event will begin at 6:15 p.m.
and will feature the Mary Queen of the World Elementary Choir and the
Royal Newfoundland Regiment Band. Refreshments will follow in the lobby
of Confederation Building.
