Tender Called for Highway Realignment near Pinware
The Provincial Government has called a tender to begin construction
of a highway realignment in the area of Pinware on Route 510 in Southern
Labrador. The Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and
Works, made the announcement today.
"As our provincial infrastructure strategy continues, we are
advancing important projects that enhance the transportation network
throughout Newfoundland and Labrador," said Minister Hedderson. "This
realignment of Route 510 will lead to enhanced highway safety and
alleviate ongoing maintenance concerns in the Pinware area."
The new section of highway will have a total length of approximately
eight kilometres and will replace an existing section of highway between
Pinware and Red Bay that follows the Pinware River along the base of a
cliff. The project will be cost-shared 50/50 by the Provincial and
Federal Governments through the federal Building Canada Fund.
It is expected that the new section of Route 510 will be completed
and open to traffic by the fall of 2011.
Budget 2010:

Future

bridge expenditures throughout the province. This funding will be
supplemented by an additional $57.9 million in Federal Government
funding for a total road and bridge investment of $235.6 million in
2010-11.
