Exploits and Lewisporte Regions to See Roadwork This Summer

The Provincial Government has called another tender for roadwork to be completed this construction season. The Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works, made the announcement today.

"Our unprecedented infrastructure strategy continues to pay dividends throughout the province, particularly as it relates to highway infrastructure improvements," said Minister Hedderson. "Our continuing road enhancements are helping to improve the flow of people and goods on our highways and are benefiting residents and businesses, especially in rural areas that play host to many tourists each year."

This latest tender includes the following projects:

  • Pulverizing and paving of approximately seven kilometres of Route 350 from Northern Arm towards Point Leamington, the paving of approximately 1.8 kilometres of Route 350 in Leading Tickles and sections of Route 352 in Northern Arm.
  • Pulverizing and paving of approximately 2.6 kilometres of Route 3-1-09 at Norris Arm North; paving of sections of Route 340 and 341 and, replacement of the existing concrete bridge over Woolfrey's Pond Brook on Route 341 with a culvert.

"The upgrading and paving of Route 350 from Northern Arm to Point Leamington has been an objective of mine for some time and I am delighted to see that work on this section of highway will be carried out this summer," said Exploits MHA Clayton Forsey. "The Point Leamington Highway is heavily travelled, and this work will help to ensure a much more pleasurable driving experience for residents and visitors."

"I am very pleased to join with the residents of Norris Arm North and Lewisporte in celebration of this good news," said Lewisporte MHA Wade Verge. "Improved roads and bridges will result in safer and more pleasant travel for the motoring public."

Budget 2010: The Right Investments — For Our Children and Our Future provides $177.7 million in Provincial Government funding for road and bridge expenditures throughout the province. This funding will be supplemented by an additional $57.9 million in Federal Government funding for a total road and bridge investment of $235.6 million in 2010-11.
