Connection
A tender released under the Provincial Roads Improvement Program will
see upgrades and rehabilitation work done to three bridges in the towns
of Northern Bay, Western Bay and Winterton. The
Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works,
made the announcement today.
"The Williams Government is working diligently throughout the
province to invest in road and bridge work to ensure a sound way
forward," said Minister Hedderson. "With each new tender called we
continue our progress towards an overall improved infrastructure for the
immediate present and well into the future."
The tender work calls for the rehabilitation
of
Northern Bay Brook Bridge, which will involve the complete replacement
of the bridge deck slab, installation of new bridge rails, and the
repaving of the bridge and approaches.
The rehabilitation of Western Bay Bridge will involve
minor repairs to the bridge abutments.
The rehabilitation of Hindy's Brook Bridge in the Town of Winterton
will involve the complete replacement of the wooden deck and beams with
a reinforced concrete slab.
"Bridge upgrades are vital for all residents and I will be very
pleased to see this work carried out," said the Honourable Charlene
Johnson, MHA for Trinity-Bay de Verde. "This much needed work will
provide improved safety for residents and the visiting public."
Improvements to bridge and highway infrastructure throughout the
province are just some of the overall enhancements being carried out
through the Provincial Government's unprecedented infrastructure
strategy which is now valued at more than $5 billion over the next
several years.
Budget 2010: The Right Investments — For Our Children and Our
Future provides $177.7 million in Provincial Government funding for
road and bridge expenditures throughout the province.
