Four Provincial Boys Volleyball Tournaments
This Weekend
Four high school provincial boys volleyball champions will be
declared this weekend as the boys teams take to the court.
The Small Schools Boys Volleyball tournament is being hosted
by St. Mark�s School in Kings Cove. Eight teams will compete in
a two-division round robin tournament. Competing in Division A
will be Bishop White All Grade (Port Rexton), Mary Simms All
Grade (Main Brook), Fortune Bay Academy (St. Bernards), and
Basque Memorial (Red Bay). Vying for top honors in Division B is
the host, St. Mark�s, Main River Academy (Pollard�s Point),
William Gillett Memorial (Charlottetown) and E.A. Butler (McKays).
The tournament begins 9:00 a.m. Friday and concludes with the
championship match, 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
The 2A teams will converge on Roddickton as Cloud River
Academy plays host. Ten teams will compete in two-division in
round robin play beginning 4:00 p.m. Thursday. Competing in
Division A will be Jens Haven Memorial (Nain), Grandy�s River
Collegiate (Burnt Island), John Watkins Academy (Hermitage),
Cape John Collegiate (LaScie) and Cloud River Academy. Division
B will see action from Random Island Academy, Labrador Straits
Academy (Forteau), Gill Memorial (Musgrave Harbour), Point
Leamington Academy, and Canon Richards Memorial (Flower�s Cove).
The top two teams meet in the cross-overs Saturday afternoon
followed by the championship game.
The 3A Provincial Tournament will take place at Tricentia
Academy in Arnolds Cove. Nine teams will be competing for the
championship banner. Division A will consist of Tricentia
Academy, J. M. Olds Collegiate (Twillingate), Menihek High
(Labrador City), Roncalli High (Avondale) and Dorset Collegiate
(Pilley�s Island). Competing in Division B will see action from
Pearson Academy (Wesleyville), St. James Regional High (Port aux
Basques), Discovery Collegiate (Bonavista) and King Academy
(Harbour Breton). The first match will be played Thursday
evening and continue throughout Friday and Saturday, ending with
the championship match at 4:00 p.m.
Gander Collegiate will host 10 teams in the Boys 4A event.
Division A will see competition between Southwest Arm Academy
(Little Heart�s Ease), Gonzaga High (St. John�s) Corner Brook
High, Exploits Valley High (Grand Falls-Windsor) and Queen
Elizabeth Regional High (Foxtrap). Vying for top spot in
Division B is Gander Collegiate, Ascension Collegiate (Bay
Roberts), Booth Memorial (St. John�s), Clarenville High and
Stephenville High. Matches will be played at both Gander
Collegiate and St. Paul�s Intermediate School. Matches at both
venues start 1:00 p.m. Friday, and continue throughout Friday
and Saturday. The semi-finals are scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
Saturday, followed by the championship match at 3:30 p.m.
In addition to gold and silver SSNL medals, a championship
banner will be awarded to the winning teams. SSNL believes
strongly in the values and principles of Sportsmanship. In
recognition of this, an individual sportsmanship medal will be
presented to one deserving person on each team. All teams and
officials vote to recognize a team who has displayed great
sportsmanship, as well. This team is awarded the Team
Sportsmanship Banner.
School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador tournaments are made
