Bonavista's Cabot Stadium Receives $12,000 for Upgrades

The Bonavista Cabot Stadium Committee has received $12,000 from the Provincial Government's 2010 Capital Grant Program to undertake insulation work at the facility.

Providing safe, comfortable sporting environments for communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador is among the goals stated in our recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador, said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. We are pleased to be able to help make the Cabot Stadium a more comfortable space for recreation and sports participants and spectators alike.

Bonavista is among more than 40 municipalities, recreation commissions, and community-based organizations throughout the province which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.

The Bonavista Cabot Stadium, while located in the Town of Bonavista, serves the indoor recreational needs of the entire tip of the Bonavista Peninsula, said the Honourable Roger Fitzgerald, MHA for Bonavista South. This funding will improve the comfort levels for all those using the facility both as sports participants and supporters. I welcome this funding and thank the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation as well as the local Cabot Stadium Committee, for continuing to seek improvements to this regional centre.

Since the introduction of Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million in new funding has been committed for recreation and sport infrastructure and programming.
