Carmanville Recreation Facilities to be Improved
Through $14,400 Investment

The Carmanville Recreation Committee will make improvements to the town's recreation building and upgrade the outdoor rink with the help of $14,400 provided through the Provincial Government's 2010 Capital Grant Program.

This funding will be used to assist with the installation of weeping tile at the recreation building and facilitate repairs and upgrades to the community's outdoor rink, said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. Upgrading provincial recreation infrastructure protects government and community investments in these facilities and ensures residents of all ages have a safe, pleasant environment in which to pursue physical and social activities essential to their overall well-being.

Carmanville is among more than 40 municipalities, recreation commissions, and community-based organizations throughout the province which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through the latest investments approved through Capital Grant Program.

I am really pleased with the grant approved for the Carmanville Recreation Committee, said the Honourable Harry Harding, Minister of Government Services and MHA for Bonavista North. The local outdoor rink and recreation centre are used extensively and have been in need of repairs and upgrading. This funding will address this issue and enhance the facilities from the perspectives of both safety and durability.

Budget 2010: The Right Investments For Our Children and Our Future provides an additional $300,000 to the Capital Grant Program, bringing the total annual investment in this program to $1.3 million. Since the introduction of the Provincial Governments recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million in new funding has been committed for recreation and sport infrastructure and programming.
