Publishing Industry Benefits from $200,000
Investment
The Provincial Government has provided five
Newfoundland and Labrador publishing companies with $200,000 through the
2010 Publishers Assistance Program, which is designed to assist local
publishers to produce and market their work for a variety of local,
national and international audiences.
"The Provincial Government recognizes the
tremendous creative talent in our literary sector and the importance of
supporting our local writers and publishers in their efforts to generate
high-quality products," said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of
Tourism, Culture and Recreation. "This funding also enables publishers
to access professional development opportunities, and to creatively and
professionally present their products in a manner which enables them to
be competitive in the global marketplace."
The Publishers Assistance Program was
introduced in 2006 as part of the province's cultural strategy,
Creative Newfoundland and Labrador. Local publishers approved for
support in 2010 are, as follows:
- Flanker Press $49,030
- Breakwater Books $47,740
- Creative Book Publishing $43,230
- Boulder Publications $31,610
- Rattling Books $28,390
The Publishers Assistance Program is a
component of the Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP), which in
2010 is providing approximately $2.5 million in support to arts,
cultural and heritage organizations, community-based projects, and
individual artists throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
