Independent Filmmakers Cooperative
Receives $65,000 from Province
Newfoundland Independent Filmmakers
Cooperative (NIFCO) has received $65,000 in project support through the
province's Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP) to assist with
their professional development programs.
"The Government of Newfoundland and
Labrador is committed to supporting cultural industries throughout our
province that promote our creative talent and keep them working right
here at home," said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism,
Culture and Recreation. "We are proud of the ability of our cultural
artists, an ability that is second to none."
NIFCO was founded in 1975 by a group of
filmmakers who wanted to ensure that the means of film production were
available to artists working in the province. Today, NIFCO boasts a
state-of-the-art sound recording studio and digital editing equipment,
which allows filmmakers to produce films to industry standards.
"This investment plays an important and
vital role in the development of filmmaking in Newfoundland and Labrador
through our Picture Start and First Filmmaking Programs," said Jean
Smith, Executive Director, NIFCO.
The 2010 CEDP is providing $1.27 million
for operational and project support to the heritage sector, and
approximately $1.2 million to the professional arts sector, for a total
of almost $2.5 million.
CEDP projects are selected based on the
strength of the business plans, vision and potential for development
within the sector. For more information on the CEDP program and
application guidelines, visit:
