Funding
Invested in Burin-Placentia West Region
Organizations responsible for delivering recreation and active-living
programs in the Burin-Placentia West area have received a total of
$19,305 in support through the Community Recreation Development Grant (CRDG)
Program.
"Community Recreation Development Grants are available to communities
of 6,000 or fewer, and are intended to help municipalities and
recreation committees, particularly those in rural areas, deliver
programming which encourages residents to live more active, healthy
lives," said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture
and Recreation. "By providing accessible, inclusive programming,
community-based organizations are able to contribute to the overall
well-being of residents."
Investments in the Burin-Placentia West area are as follows:
Town of Marystown — $5,115;
Town of Parker's Cove — $5,005;
Town of Burin — $4,565;
Boat Harbour Recreation Committee — $3,465; and,
Town of Brookside — $1,155.
"The Community Recreation Development Grants are an invaluable
component of the Provincial Government's efforts to encourage a
healthier, active lifestyle," said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, MHA for
Burin-Placentia West. "I am pleased to see these communities work with
our government to provide recreational programs to their residents and
those of surrounding communities."
CRDG applications are considered based on their alignment with the
priorities outlined in the province's recreation and sport strategy,
Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador
(2007). These priorities
include providing increased access to recreational programming for all
residents; making the best use of community facilities; building
community capacity to deliver programming; and, promoting the inclusion
of traditionally under-represented groups, especially women and girls,
seniors, Aboriginal people, and those with disabilities.
