Minister to Attend Writers at Woody Point Festival
The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and
Recreation, will attend the Writers at Woody Point Festival in Woody
Point, Bonne Bay, this evening (Wednesday, August 18) and tomorrow
(Thursday, August 19) at the Woody Point Heritage Theatre.
"Writers at Woody Point has become an international event which
attracts some of the best writers and songwriters from across the
country and around the world, who are drawn to the unique opportunity to
share their work, in a relaxed, intimate environment, in the heart of
spectacular Gros Morne National Park," said Minister French. "The
Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has been a long-time supporter
of this event, and we look forward to seeing this highly-anticipated
festival grow and prosper for many years to come."
The Provincial Government has invested $6,300 in the 2010 Writers at
Woody Point Festival — an increase of $1,100 over last year — through
the Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP).
The 2010 CEDP is providing $1.2 million for operational and project
support to the professional arts sector, and about $1.27 million to the
heritage sector, for a total of almost $2.5 million.
This year's lineup at Woody Point includes Scottish writer Alexander
McCall Smith, Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah Harmer, well-known
writers Amanda Boyden and Lawrence Hill, along with many other musicians
and authors from both Newfoundland and Labrador and abroad. For a
