Grand Bank Communities Benefit from Heritage Investments

Five heritage organizations in the Grand Bank region have received $8,320 in operational support funding through the Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP).

"Community-based heritage organizations play an integral role in preserving and interpreting our history and culture," said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. "The Provincial Government is proud to support local groups in the Grand Bank region which are dedicated to providing opportunities for people to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage of Newfoundland and Labrador."

Investments in the region are as follows:

  • Grand Bank Heritage Society — $3,430;
  • St. Lawrence Heritage Society — $1,860;
  • Heritage Fortune Inc. — $1,000;
  • Lamaline Heritage Society — $1,000; and,
  • Lawn Local Development Museum — $1,030.

"I am very pleased to work with the various heritage community organizations within the Grand Bank area in an effort to secure this necessary funding," said the Honourable Darin King, MHA for Grand Bank. "I am delighted that our government is continuing to assist heritage groups and their volunteers, who are to be commended for their dedication in preserving their towns' long and rich heritage."

The 2010 CEDP is providing $1.27 million for operational and project support to the heritage sector, and approximately $1.2 million to the professional arts sector, for a total of almost $2.5 million.

CEDP projects are selected based on the strength of the business plans, vision and potential for development within the sector. For more information on the CEDP program and application guidelines, visit: www.tcr.gov.nl.ca/tcr/heritage/cedp/index.html
