Admiralty House Museum
and Archives Benefits from $9,020 Heritage Investment
The Honourable Terry French, Minister of
Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today announced that Admiralty House
Museum and Archives, located in Mount Pearl, has received $9,020 in
operational support through the Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP).
"Formerly known as H.M. Wireless Station
during the First World War, Admiralty House Museum and Archives is
playing an important role in preserving and promoting the history of the
region, and indeed the province," said Minister French. "By visiting
Admiralty House, residents and visitors alike will learn about early
radio communications in Newfoundland and Labrador, the disaster of the
S.S. Florizel, everyday life as a First World War naval officer, and the
history of Mount Pearl."
The 2010 CEDP is providing $1.27 million
for operational and project support to the heritage sector, and about
$1.2 million to the professional arts sector, for a total of almost $2.5
million.
"I am delighted that Mount Pearl is able
to benefit from funding provided under the Cultural Economic Development
Program," said the Honourable Dave Denine, MHA for Mount Pearl South.
"Provincial Government's support of Admiralty House allows our local
history to be recognized, protected and enjoyed for many years to come."
CEDP projects are selected based on the
strength of the business plans, vision and potential for development
within the sector. For more information and CEDP application guidelines,
