The Town of Springdale has received $10,000 from the
Provincial Government to assist with the costs associated with hosting
the 2010 Central Regional Games, to be held August 16-18.
"The youth attending these games will participate in
organized sports programming in a fun, non-competitive environment,"
said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and
Recreation. "The Regional Games Program is designed to provide young
people with opportunities to engage in physical activity and to
encourage them to continue a healthy, active lifestyle throughout their
lives."
The $100,000 Regional Games Program, administered
through Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador, provides 10 communities
with up to $10,000 to help provide young people aged 11-18 with an
opportunity to participate in a multi-sport event within their region.
"This is exciting news for the Town of Springdale and
the youth who will participate in the 2010 Central Regional Games," said
Baie Verte-Springdale MHA Kevin Pollard. "This event will provide
participants with the opportunity to become physically active and enjoy
the camaraderie and excitement of organized sports."
