Province Invests $183,858 for Training
in Preparation for 2011 Canada Winter Games
Provincial Sports Organizations in
Newfoundland and Labrador have received a total of $183,858 from the
Provincial Government in support of athlete training for the upcoming
2011 Canada Winter Games, being held February 11-27, 2011, in Halifax,
Nova Scotia.
"Our province continues to produce
outstanding, elite athletes who compete successfully on the provincial,
national and international stage," said the Honourable Terry French,
Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. "As the athletes begin
their dedicated preparations for the games, this funding will allow them
to receive the high-performance training they will require to achieve
athletic excellence at this event and others."
The Canada Games were established in 1967, and
are held every two years, alternating summer and winter. Newfoundland
and Labrador hosted the 1977 Canada Summer Games in St. John's and the
1999 Canada Winter Games in Corner Brook. For more information about the
