The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism,
Culture and Recreation, today announced that $10,000 has been allocated
to help enable Clarenville to host the Vista Regional Games, to be held
August 2-4, 2010.
"The Regional Games Program allows our province's
youth to participate in organized, yet non-competitive sports
programming," said Minister French. "It is part of the Provincial
Government's efforts to provide our young people with opportunities to
engage in physical activity and to encourage them to continue a healthy,
active lifestyle throughout their lives."
The $100,000 Regional Games Program, administered
through Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador, provides 10 communities
with up to $10,000 to offer youth, aged 11-18, with an opportunity to
participate in multi-sport events within their regions.
"I am delighted the Provincial Government is committed
to promoting a healthy lifestyle through sport," said the Honourable
Ross Wiseman, MHA for Trinity North. "These games will provide youth
from the entire region with an opportunity to participate."
Budget 2010:
The Right Investments — For Our
Children and Our Future
