Province Invests
$11,860 in the Isles of Notre Dame Heritage
A total of $11,860 in operational support
has been provided to heritage organizations in the Isles of Notre Dame
region through the province's Cultural Economic Development Program.
"The Provincial Government recognizes the
importance of preserving and promoting our heritage, and the efforts of
community-based groups to safeguard our history and traditions," said
the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and
Recreation. "This investment will continue to support those efforts to
the benefit of residents and visitors alike."
Budget 2010 investments in The Isles of
Notre Dame are as follows:
- Twillingate Museum Association -
$6,250;
- Durrell Museum Corporation - $3,540;
-
Moreton's Harbour Museum - $1,070;
and,
- Tilting Historical Foundation -
$1,000.
"This program assists with much-needed
operational support for these groups, helping to ensure the preservation
of our rich culture and heritage for future generations," said Derrick
Dalley, MHA for The Isles of Notre Dame. "These heritage organizations
also attract a host of visitors to our region each year, resulting in an
increase in economic activity and benefits to our communities."
The 2010 Cultural Economic Development
Program (CEDP) is providing $1.27 million for operational and project
support to the heritage sector, and about $1.2 million to the
professional arts sector, for a total of almost $2.5 million.
CEDP applications are considered based on
the strength of the business plans, vision and potential for development
within the sector. For more information on the CEDP program for heritage
