St. Barbe Communities Benefit from
Heritage Investments
A total of $9,950 in operational support
has been provided to heritage organizations in the St. Barbe region
through the province's Cultural Economic Development Program.
"We cannot overstate the amount of time and hard work that people in
local communities put into preserving and promoting our heritage" said
the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and
Recreation. "Their dedication in safeguarding our past, and sharing it
with others, is helping to keep our history alive for present and future
generations."
Budget 2010 investments in the St. Barbe region are as follows:

Conservation and Heritage Committee -
$2,830;
-
Trout River Heritage Committee -
$2,300;
-
Norris Point Heritage Committee -
$1,820;
-
Nurse Myra Bennett Foundation -
$1,670;
-
Bonne Bay Cottage Hospital Heritage
Corporation - $1,000; and,
-
Woody Point Heritage Committee -
$330.
"The St. Barbe area offers some of the
most picturesque landscape and rich history in our province, with many
visitors passing through our communities each year," said St. Barbe MHA
Wallace Young. "It is great to see these heritage organizations avail of
this operational support, helping to enhance their abilities in
promoting our unique culture."
The 2010 Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP) is providing $1.27
million for operational and project support to the heritage sector, and
about $1.2 million to the professional arts sector, for a total of
almost $2.5 million.
CEDP applications are considered based on the strength of the business
plans, vision and potential for development within the sector. For more
